Modular Community for Independent Living
We built affordable modular homes to create sustainable communities for displaced residents and veterans in Ukraine
The Modular Community for Independent Living pilot project was created in 2018 through a partnership between a public association, the Children's Planet Charitable Foundation, and the Heroes Fund. The goal is to provide temporary modular housing for vulnerable groups like orphans, low-income families, veterans, and internally displaced people who lost their homes due to conflict. The aim is social support and improving living standards across Ukraine. The modular dwellings can be built as standalone units or combined into blocks with amenities. Eco-friendly construction technologies like light steel framing and sandwich panels are used for rapid deployment. The project timeline is 1-2 years. A neighborhood of single family modular cottages and apartment buildings will be constructed for residence up to 3 years until permanent housing is obtained. The units range from 48 - 120 sq meters based on family size. The project provides all necessary utilities and plans small production facilities for 4-15 workers to create local jobs. It can be implemented either as an eco-village with renewable energy and CFT panel construction, or low-cost frame buildings on strip foundations. Given the ability to allocate additional land for facilities and jobs, this project can be considered a sustainable social investment model, not just charity.
